After a great series against Calgary, Dallas' quickness has been keeping Douglas Murray on the bench.
And benching Ehrhoff now does nothing to solve the Sharks biggest looming problem -- which is Brian Campbell having 90 minutes of ice time in the past 3 games.
Ideally, Ehrhoff would be a heckuva 6th defenseman. But with McLaren gone, Murray finally being overwhelmed by his first trip through the NHL playoffs and Carle still needing another year between him and college hockey, this is what the Sharks have been dealt.
And during the regular season, Ehrhoff did play some of the best hockey of his career down the stretch, before getting injured. Maybe the more games he puts between his injury, he'll recapture that form.
He did show some decisiveness to go along with his quickness when he exploded from the blue line to keep a possession alive that lead to Pavelski's game winner. So maybe all the bad things he's done will start to be evened out by some good things, or at least some good fortune.
Because if the Sharks pull off this miracle comeback against the Stars, they're going to need something more miraculous to get past the even quicker Red Wings -- an Ehrhoff playing within his abilities.
Short of taking a forward and putting him back there, there is nothing the Sharks can do right now. And Ehrhoff's not even the defenseman the Sharks are the most concerned about. If he was, they'd probably be in much better shape in this series.
